New Purchases: Review

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in 06 Istanbul

This formula completely took me by surprise when I first tried this lipstick. It is certainly well-marketed because it is soft and creamy when applied. Unlike the Liquid Suedes, this does not dry to a completely matte finish as it doesn't dry as such but remains creamy. I find it more wearable for a day than the liquid suede as it doesn't dry out but it is less pigmented. My colour choice is unusual for me as I never go for pink shades but I now love this as I can blot it down to a more subtle shade if I want to but I can build up the colour for a brighter pink.

NYX Liquid Suede in 04 Soft Spoken

I fell in love with this colour the second I swatched it in Boots and naturally I had to buy it, continuing to wear it every day that week. The colour is a lovely brown-toned nude which dries to a fully matte finish. Like the majority of matte liquid lipsticks, it can be quite drying so, in order to avoid this, I exfoliate my lips and apply some lip balm about five minutes before application - exfoliating ensures the lipstick does not emphasis dry patches and the lip balm ensures your lips are hydrated. I will be honest and say that this lipstick won't last all day - it can flake a little and can be uncomfortably dry by the end of a full day. However, I 100% prefer it to the Sleek Matte Me which I did not expect at all. I cannot rave enough about this product because I love it so much that I can put up with any flaking or drying and will prefer to wear it in the evenings.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation in Sand

As you can see from the pictures, this is a sample but I've been testing it for a couple of months now and I LOVE IT. It was only meant to be a 10 day sample but it's lasted more than 10 wears for me because it is so high coverage that I don't need much. I wouldn't label it as either a dewy or matte foundation but I do powder my whole face because I prefer a matte finish and it ensures everything is kept in place. Estee Lauder label it as a medium coverage foundation but, for me, I feel it's high coverage as it has a higher coverage than other medium coverage products I've tried.

Now, I've tested this foundation to death. I've worn it on long, hot days out, evenings, nights out and once I wore it to the gym because I was meeting friends for drinks and didn't have time to do my makeup afterwards. Through all the (hate to say it but we're all human) sweating, rubbing off and all sorts, it has held up super well. It does cost £31, hence my rigorous testing. But when my sample runs out I am definitely going to buy it. I won't be using it as my every day foundation (as I favour lighter coverage for that purpose) but it is already and will be my go-to for long days and nights.

Estee Lauder Illuminating Perfecting Primer (shown in the picture as 'Primer glow')

Along with the foundation, I got some primer samples to test out. I'm usually not hugely impressed with glowy, dewy or illuminating products because, as previously stated, I favour the matte look. However, I've thoroughly enjoyed using this primer as it has slight specks of shimmer in it that adds a healthy but subtle glow. I'm anaemic so some days I can look quite pale and this helps me look a little healthier under my makeup without looking unnatural. It is very moisturising and is unlike any other primer I've tried (Benefit Porefessional and Maybelline Baby Skin) as it isn't only designed to blur imperfections but helps moisturise and avoid dry patches which works well with the foundation as some times it can emphasise dry patches (I find all makeup does to a certain extent). I favour this on dry skin days over other primers due to the moisturising quality.

Estee Lauder Matte Perfecting Primer

I find that this has exactly the same texture and feel as the Illuminating Primer but just has a matte finish instead. I favour this primer on hotter days just because I find that way I look slightly less oily in my T-zone. I love this primer too and favour it, like the other one, on drier skin days. I also reach for it for nights out once again just to make my makeup look nicer for longer (nobody wants to look shiny in the night club flash cameras). I do use this primer more than the illuminating one due to personal preference.

Benefit Ready, Set, Brow!

Oh. My. Gosh. I love this product so much. Now I was blessed with thick brows in an era where they are fashionable but I was cursed with the issue that comes with them; they are uncontrollable. I've been trying to find a clear gel that holds them in place and have been unsuccessful until now. It's like a glue and the brush has different sizes on either side so application is easy. My brows stay in place all day but the gel is removed easily with micellar water. Sometimes it can flake and look a little like PVA glue does when you get it on your skin, however this only occurs when your brows are under the kind of friction experienced when you’re trying on all the bodycon tops you own. So it's not an awful problem but it can happen on occasion.

It's so good to be back! I hope you enjoyed the post, let me know what you think.

I'm Back!

Hello Lovelies,

So it's been a while. I hope you are happy and well.
I've been MIA for quite a while now and I apologise for that. I've had loads of important exams but they're all over and I plan to be back for good.
I'm trying to find a design and style I like so bear with me while I figure things out.
Watch out for a new post coming Wednesday and check out my Instagram @Okaykayblog to keep you updated as I'll be back on that too!
